About Me
They call me Kevin O. Woghiren or 王可文.
Undergraduate career:
Loyola University Chicago ’10, B.S. Computer Science (Networks)–minors in Finance and Gender Studies
–The Beijing Center ’09 (Study Abroad in China)
Work experience:
General Electric Company (GE) Summer 2010 (Connecticut), Summer 2011 (Michigan), Jan. 2012Global Asset Advisors, LLC / Daniels Trading (Illinois) 2007 to 2009 (intern)
Graduate career:
Peking University ’12 (China), M.S. Management (expected) Thesis focus: network topologies & microeconomic theories —>Thesis Advisor: Marc Idelson, PhD. Working title of thesis: Analysis of Schools of Economic Thought via Network Topologies: A Social Network Analysis of Chief EconomistsI was born in Nigeria and immigrated to the United States, specifically Boston, MA (Celtics-Patriots-Bruins-Red Sox!) at a young age. I attended Boston College High School and enjoyed four years of meeting great people and being involved in student life before continuing my Jesuit education @ Loyola Chicago. For most of my undergraduate career @ Loyola, I was employed in the commodities trading industry and did not have the time or energy to be involved in as much student life and extracurricular activities as I would have preferred. I am currently a full-time graduate student in China @ 北京大学.
My goals for the future…who knows?
My interests and hobbies include playing chess, debating with left-wing liberals and right-wing conservatives, drawing geometric and self-similar objects to counter boredom, being a moderate Star Trek fan (The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine series), volunteering with youth, playing sports, aviation, collecting foreign currencies, reading thrillers, traveling, improving on my foreign language skills, moments of clarity, and occasionally star gazing.
GRADUATE RESEARCH:
(submitted, under review–European Series in Applied and Industrial Mathematics-Cambridge University Press) (authors Qingfang RUAN, Qi RUO, Kevin WOGHIREN, and Lixin MIAO)
This paper addresses a Three-Dimensional Loading Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (3L-CVRP) which combines a three-dimensional loading problem and vehicle routing problem in distribution logistics. The Three-Dimensional Loading Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (3L-CVRP) is a very complex problem that combines two NP-hard problems called three-dimensional loading and vehicle routing. The problem requires the combinatorial optimization of a feasible loading solution and a successive routing of vehicles to satisfy client demands, where all vehicles must start and terminate at a central depot. In spite of its clear practical significance in the real world of distribution management, 3L-CVRP in literature is very limited for its high combinatorial complexity. We solve this problem via a hybrid approach that combines Genetic Algorithm and Tabu Search (GATS). Genetic algorithm is developed for vehicle routing and tabu search for three-dimensional loading, but these two algorithms are integrated for the combinatorial problem. We computationally evaluate this hybrid genetic algorithm on all publicly available test instances, and obtain new best solutions for several instances.
UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH:
- Mythologizing Modernity: The Teleological Nature of Bruno Schulz’s Works and the Chaos Within
(submitted, rejected—Oxford University Press, on the back-burner for now/for good)
This paper provides an original assessment of Bruno Schulz’s works in relation to both early European modernists and post-modernists. I argue that Schulz’s texts model after a teleological timeline with the design and final purpose of his works inherently intertwined. It is as though his texts and characters are attempting to seek some form of a redemptive state characterized by a Judeo-Christian timeline. In order to achieve this, Schulz operates his works and characters in several mythical time tracks and blurs the line between reality and fantasy.
COMMENTS from editors:
“the use anachronistic terms like “Postmodernist” to describe Schulz’s work should be resisted…This obscures the challenge of placing Schulz’s work in its time and place.”
“scatter-shot attempt to turn Schulz into a kind of proto-Marxist or Walter Benjaminian culture critic, with the claim that his work criticizes ‘bourgeois modernity.”

“To laugh often and much, to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends, to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch…to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!”
